Welcome to the Chaotic Omniscince Video Instruction Site

Welcome to the premeiere issue of The Chaotic Omniscience Video page. Thius will be updated rather erratically so don't get your knickers in a bunch if you come back and see the same old crap here everyday. The Purpose of this page is to help all you would be DVD rippers and VCD creators understand the Hows and Whys of Proper DVD and VCD Ripping/Encoding

Just like everything else in this world there are certain guidelines you should follow to ensure that the files you create and eventually share (You do share don't you?!?) are done in such a manner that anyone would ne able to use them and re-encode them for use.
To kick off this Issue let me start by stating one thing that really puts a bugger on my windscreen. Who in the Hell decided that 20fps was an acceptable frame rate? even cartoons are done at 24fps. I mean holy balls people if your going to go through all the trouble of ripping a DVD or telesynching a movie at least encode it at a good frame rate. What is a good frame rate well its 25fps for PAL/SEACAM and its 29.97fps for NTSC or 24.976fps for NTSC film specs. Ok having said that there is also the issue of image sizing. if you are going to create a quality file you need to have it be a good size too, so here is what i suggest. 352x288(PAL) 352x240(NTSC) if you plan on using it for VCD and 720x576(PAL) 720x480(NTSC) if you want to dump it to DVD. Personally I would rather get a bigger file (one done at DVD spec) so that i could use it for either format. Its eaiser to size things down than up. But in any case I'm Rambling on again so I'll stop right here. Look for more advice and documentation in the near future by either myself or Captian Bob.

Thank You and Enjoy the rest of your stay here at Chaotic Omniscience. -Dr. Kilgore
